Annual Crappie Tournament  May 6, 2023
Annual Bill Mosca Memorial

Since 1987 Cannon River Sportsmen’s Club has held a fishing tournament the first Saturday in May. 

Fifty two-man teams compete for cash prizes and recognition as the best crappie catchers around.  Teams can weigh-in a combined limit of 15 white/black crappies and also compete for the largest individual fish for an additional cash prize. 

Previous participants and Club members have priority for entry,
but generally we have a few openings for new entries.

This year’s Crappie Tournament marks the 35th anniversary of this event! Over the years we have had great support and participation by all involved. The person in charge of organizing and implementing this event since its inception, Mr. Bill Mosca, is no longer with us. Bill passed away last fall after a hard fought battle with cancer. Bill was passionate about outdoor education and activities and spent countless hours of his own time supporting these efforts.

This year, to honor Bill, the CRSC would like to rename the tournament and from here on out call it the “Bill Mosca Memorial Crappie Tournament.” We also plan to create an annual scholarship in his name, the Bill Mosca Memorial Scholarship, with proceeds from this tournament going to a high school senior who is planning to attend college with a career focus in biology, environmental studies, or another option along these lines.

Your participation in this tournament will help us continue the tradition started by Bill so many years ago and help us honor him by supporting our young people who have Bill’s passion for the great outdoors!
